AMES Footscray: Hopes and dreams for the future

This artist hopes to do more study and to later work in childcare.

At AMES Footscray we did our first session of learning to draw cartoons. Some cartoons we made are about our lives this week and others are about our hopes and dreams for the future.
We will eventually be making some pictures to display at Gallery Sunshine Everywhere.

"In the future I want to study at TAFE."
"I hope I can be a student in TAFE."

Exquisite Me is an arts project that explores the collective experiences, stories and representations of identities of young people in Sunshine and Brimbank. These experiences, stories and representations will be explored during various art and writing workshops run by community artist Debbie Qadri. The artwork and writing will be displayed as a large collaborative work, in a number of venues in Sunshine, including Gallery Sunshine Everywhere. Some of the artwork and writing will be published in a zine format and also made into an artist’s book for the Sunshine Library. Workshops will be held at schools, community groups and at Council facilities such as the Sunshine Library .

AMES FOOTSCRAY: cartoons about me

At AMES Footscray we did our first session of learning to draw cartoons. Some cartoons we made are about our lives this week and others are about our hopes and dreams for the future.
We will eventually be making some pictures to display at Gallery Sunshine Everywhere during refugee week.

In the future I would like to go to TAFE

I am from Somalia. I lived in Kenya for two years. After that I came to Australia. It was exciting to come to Australia. I'm feeling good. I believe I have a better life . . .
I'd like to become an accountant and have a family.

This cartoon is about watching soccer on the weekend.

In this cartoon the person, went outside his house and suddenly saw a dog there. He was very scared.

In this cartoon, the artist explores hopes for the future, and what life is like now. He misses his family, who don't live in Australia.

In this cartoon the artist is expressing his hope to become a soldier in the Australian Army, where soldiers help people, instead of being terrorists.

It was raining the morning that we made these cartoons and a lot of people got wet, trying to get to school. Here the artist shows how she got caught in the rain.

Dreams for the future - 'Its my dream to buy a house in Australia", and "Wow!, now I am an I.T. job holder."

AMES Footscray cartooning: our first cartoons

In the future I want to help people.

In the future I would like to have a business that is in many places around the world.

I the future I would like to be in charge of a company and have a helicopter.

I would like to go to Victoria University.

This is a scene of my country, with a waterfall. There are fields where rice is grown and fields of corn.

My dream is to improve my English.

I am reading a learner permit book, thinking to learn to drive.
