After they are fired they will be much brighter and very colourful.
The tiles were made with the help of Debbie, Susie and Lil. Thanks to the students who took the task very seriously and did their best to make interesting representations of themselves and to make the tiles carefully.
The tiles are drying slowly and will be fired over the school holidays.
This piece of art represents me. I used
red, orange, black, purple, blue and brown. I included hair, lips a nose, no
ears, t-shirt, pants, shoes, a background and I didn’t draw arms because I’m
not good at it.
I had fun doing my artwork. I made a
picture of the world because I like to travel. I expressed a lot of things like
working with the clay. The Australian Flag represents that I live in Australia.
The last bit is meant to be music notes. My favourite part was the clay
shaping. I found it difficult to paint the clay.

My picture shows a girl jumping on a
trampoline while skipping because that is one of my hobbies. My dress is pink
and orange because they’re my favourite colours. I want people to think that my
artwork is fun and quirky. I think it is really creative.
I found it really fun decorating these
tiles and I think we did it to express ourselves. I used so many different
colours. I want people to look at my work as someone who wants to fly and knows
how to skate boards. I enjoyed making this. It was hard expressing myself.
This is a photo of a cat head. In the
middle is the stuff I like to eat and dog feet. I chose a cat head because of
my love of cats. I chose these things in the middle because I like eating them. I chose dog
feet because I like dogs.

I had a wonderful time painting these tiles
as they express my inner self. I used the colours as they are very beautiful.
The first tile expresses my enjoyment of gardening. The second tile expressed
my love of music and the third tile expresses the joy I get from dancing.

I have had a fun time making these clay
tiles. I used different kinds of colours.
The 1st tile expresses me because I like bears, the 2nd
tile expressed me because I like shopping and the third tile I like drawing. I
wish I could try this another time.
Exquisite Me is an arts project that explores the collective experiences, stories and representations of identities of young people in Sunshine and Brimbank. These experiences, stories and representations will be explored during various art and writing workshops run by community artist Debbie Qadri. The artwork and writing will be displayed as a large collaborative work, in a number of venues in Sunshine, including Gallery Sunshine Everywhere. Some of the artwork and writing will be published in a zine format and also made into an artist’s book for the Sunshine Library. Workshops will be held at schools, community groups and at Council facilities such as the Sunshine Library .
Thankyou for your support and involvement - AMES ( Adult Migrant Education Services), Marian College, Ardeer Primary School, Sunshine College, Sunshine Library and Gallery Sunshine Everywhere.
The Exquisite Me Project and Gallery Sunshine Everywhere kindly acknowledges the support of the Brimbank City Council Community Grants Program.

The self portraits were painted onto three canvases, so that they could be swapped around to make more portraits of people, as a metaphor for shared experiences and identities.
The fabulous artists are: Aaron, Shanae, Gina, Khadija, Caitlin, Duc, Michael, Kayla, Andrew, Christine, Mohamed, Skye, Britney, Courtney, Brendonn, Chevan, Francis, Alex, Victoria, Rachel, Colin, and Emily.
